For the third time, House members will be crafting and voting on a Continuing Resolution (CR) to fund the government through the remainder of the 2011 fiscal year. We must keep pressure on to make sure that the Pence Amendment -- which defunds Planned Parenthood -- is included in this CR and that all pro-life members hold strong, ONLY voting for a CR that defunds Planned Parenthood. Please immediately let your Representative know the importance of defunding Planned Parenthood -- even if you've called or e-mailed before. Go here to contact your Representative Now: http://exposeplannedparenthood.net/contact-congress/ Also, if possible, invite your local pastor or priest to come with you this Wednesday to the local district office of your Representative to ask them to stand for LIFE, stopping the flow of taxpayer funds to Planned Parenthood -- which aborted 332,278 innocent children in the last reported year. Just a simple visit to your House of Representative's office will mean a lot, sending a strong signal back to Washington, D.C. that millions of pro-life voters are paying attention! (Go to http://www.house.gov/htbin/zipfind to find the address for your Representative's district office.) This Thursday, abortion advocates are planning to gather in Washington, D.C. to angrily demand that Planned Parenthood funding be protected at all costs. They will be specifically targeting new members of Congress and those who have weak pro-life records. This is a critical moment when you need to make your voice heard loud and clear: "NO TAX $ FOR PLANNED PARENTHOOD!" Call NOW (http://exposeplannedparenthood.net/contact-congress/ ) – this is the moment we’ve all been working for! For Life, Ohio Right to Life P.S. - After you have called your Representative, call House Speaker Boehner and ask him to make sure Congress de-funds Planned Parenthood in the next Continuing Resolution Vote! Contact Speaker Boehner now at: http://www.speaker.gov/Contact/ Call your Senators after viewing the talking points below! Senator Rob Portman (PRO-LIFE) (800) 205-6446 Senator Sherrod Brown (PRO-ABORTION) (888)-896-6446 Join us in our efforts to de-fund Planned Parenthood: Call your Senator’s state office today while the Senate is in recess. Your call is vital to inform your Senator that you refuse to be forced to support the largest abortion provider in the country—Planned Parenthood—with your tax dollars. Your Senator can make a difference and help to stop funding the nation’s largest abortion provider. With your help, we will let the Senate hear the voters’ voices, loud and clear, telling them to oppose funding the nation’s largest abortion provider with our hard earned tax dollars. Your voice can make a difference. Over 70 percent of Americans oppose using tax dollars to fund abortions. Make your voice heard. Call and urge your Senator to vote to stop the millions of dollars the Federal Government currently gives to Planned Parenthood each year. Talking Points
Ohio Right to Life signed the following letter to Speaker John Boehner urging him to do all he can to progress the legislation to de-fund Planned Parenthood. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Honorable John Boehner U.S. House of Representatives Washington, DC 20515 Dear Speaker Boehner, Planned Parenthood, a scandal-plagued abortion organization, must be held accountable for abusing innocent young victims while receiving hundreds of millions in federal dollars each year. They must be defunded of federal tax dollars, and now is the time to do it. The House vote in support of Rep. Mike Pence’s Amendment No. 11 to the Full-Year Continuing Appropriations Act, 2011 (H.R. 1) to prevent government funding for the nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, is an excellent start. However, the House vote on the Pence Amendment is nothing more than symbolic unless it remains intact through the legislative process. Defunding Planned Parenthood must be a non-negotiable in the Continuing Resolution and we urge you to accept nothing less than this outcome. The fact that Planned Parenthood was caught aiding and abetting sex traffickers proves that it is not safe for women and young girls. What goes on in offices and clinics of Planned Parenthood, as Live Action's videos show, is both saddening and shocking. That it has often been done using taxpayer dollars is indefensible. As the largest abortion company in the United States, Planned Parenthood repeatedly refuses to comply with state statutory rape reporting laws, and often ignores parental consent laws. Just yesterday, Phill Kline, former Attorney General of Kansas, testified under oath that Planned Parenthood of Overland Park and the late abortionist George Tiller performed abortions on a combined 166 girls, age fourteen or younger. Out of the 166 cases of statutory rape, just two were reported to authorities, Kline testified. As debate over the Continuing Resolution continues we urge you to do everything you can to ensure that the Pence Amendment remains intact in the final version of the Continuing Resolution. Planned Parenthood is not safe for women, it is not safe for young girls, and it must be defunded now. For Life, Ohio Right to Life NRLC CONGRESSIONAL ALERT Take Action! On the morning of Friday, February 18, 2011, the U.S. House of Representatives will vote on an amendment that has been offered by Congressman Mike Pence (R-In.), which would deny all federal funds, through September 30, for the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc., and 102 PPFA affiliates, which are named in the text of the amendment. The House debated the amendment, but did not vote, on February 17. On February 14, NRLC sent House members a letter urging them to support the Pence Amendment, saying, "PPFA is the nation’s largest abortion provider, reporting 324,008 abortions in 2008. It appears that abortion accounts for roughly one-third of the aggregate income generated by PPFA-affiliated clinics. According to press reports, PPFA has recently mandated that all of its regional affiliates must provide abortions by the end of 2013. Recent media reports regarding abuses associated with PPFA-affiliated clinics in multiple states provide an additional justification for the amendment." To read the entire NRLC letter, click here. IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED! Please call the office of your U.S. House member and urge him or her to support the Pence Amendment to H.R. 1. (The Pence Amendment is Amendment Number 11.) If you already called, please call again. Simply click the "Take Action" link above, and you will see the correct phone number, as well as a suggestion for the message you should deliver to the staff person who takes the call. If you don't see a "Take Action" link above, just go to http://www.capwiz.com/nrlc/home/ and click on the Action Alert. After that, if possible, please take a moment to use the handy "feedback" form to send NRLC a brief report, by e-mail, regarding what the staff person said about how your representative will vote on the Pence Amendment.
